MAKER STORY:
When Margarete Steiff modeled her first plush elephant in 1880 from a pattern in a fashion journal, it was meant to be a pin cushion, but the small felt fellow became a popular favorite toy. From there, she designed an array of animals and toys for children and Steiff quickly became a household name in Germany. After gaining international interest, she designed the first moveable bear in 1902 and soon named him "Teddy" after American President Theodore Rosevelt. More than a century later, the company continues to delight children of all ages with heirloom gifts like the classic mohair teddy bear, and has garnered a reputation as one of the finest toy companies in the world.
